BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — The school year is here and well underway in North Dakota, and with 168 public school districts in the state, it’s essential to recognize the importance of our public schools.
North Dakotans for Public Schools, also known as ND4PS, is a grassroots coalition doing just that.
Erin Oban, the spokesperson for ND4PS, shares the importance and motive behind their coalition.
“We want to advocate for the resources and personnel that are needed to have a high-quality education for all the kids who come through the doors of public schools,” Oban said. “We want to help dispel the rumors and misinformation that are really catching on a lot and negatively impacting public schools. And we also want to celebrate the successes that they experience every day with kids across the state that we don’t often take the time to celebrate.”
Oban also explained her reason for being part of this movement, and why she’s bringing fuel to this fire in investing and protecting these students’ education for years to come.
“I’m a mom of a public school kid,” Oban said. “I happen to have some helpful experience. I was a classroom teacher, I served in the legislature, and I have been in rural and tribal community and economic development. But the membership of the coalition are just moms and dads, there are educators, and school leaders, school board members.”
To Erin’s point, the people backing this coalition are the people who are directly affected. ND4PS collected a number of testimonials from all across the state backing the movement in a video. This includes Fort yates, Grand Forks, Crosby, Dunseith, Garrison, Mandan, Mott, Oakes, and Beulah.
While this movement is only in its first year, it’s clear the passion is strong and only growing. One can only assume that the sky’s the limit for North Dakota’s future generation’s education with support like this.
